The Final Fronteir: Shining Sally

I love writing poetry because it is an excellent way to express yourself. I love reading it as well, because you have to use your brain to determine what the author is trying to say. I also write some poetry in my free time. It is just fun to write, and when I'm done writing a poem; it's nice to see what I've written, and I feel proud of myself. I view poetry as a form of art, because it is beauty in words, instead of just visual art.

Tuggin' the Luggin' - Super Snazzy Swimming Suit

Alliteration is the repetition of the consonant at the beginning of a word throughout a sentence. In the poem "Brilliant Basketball Bouncers" by Lee Emmett, there are many examples of alliteration. One example is the line, "no-body’s number knows;" he repeats the "n" sound throughout the line. Another example is the line, "fouling fellow forward flows;" he repeats the "f" sound. A third example is the line, "tackles tight team touching toes;" where he repeats the "t" sound.

My Poem:

Walter Williams washes wishing wells,
and sits on sticky sidewalks,
drinking diet Dr. Pepper,
and chomping on chocolate Cheerios,
when William Walters whacks him with his wallet.

Destination Sensation - Musical Mexico

Some Beach by Blake Shelton

Driving down the interstate
Running thirty minutes late
Singin' Margaritaville and minding my own
Some foreign car drivin' dude with the road rage attitude
Pulled up beside me talkin' on his cell phone
He started yelling at me like I did something wrong
He flipped me the bird and then he was gone

Some beach Somewhere
There's a big umbrella casting shade over an empty chair
Palm trees are growing and a warm breezes a blowing
I picture myself right there
On Some beach, somewhere

I circled the parkin' lot, tryin' to find a spot
Just big enough I could park my old truck
A man with a big cigar was getting into his car
I stopped and I waited for him to back up
From out of no where a Mercedes Benz
Came cruisin' up and whipped right in

Some beach Somewhere
There's no where to go when you got all day to get there
There's cold margaritas and hot Senoritas smiling with long dark hair
On some beach Somewhere

I sit in that waiting room
It seemed like all afternoon
The nurse finally said doc's ready for you
you're not gonna feel a thing we'll give you some Novocain
That tooth will be fine in a minute or two
But he stuck that needle down deep in my gum
And he started drillin' before I was numb

Some beach
Somewhere
There's a beautiful sunset burning up the atmosphere
There's music and dancing and lovers romancing
In the soft evening air
On some beach Somewhere
On some beach,
somewhere

These apply to the song and my poem:
Red=End Rhyme
Blue=Internal Rhyme
Purple=End Rhyme and Internal Rhyme
Orange=Hyperbole
Italics=Personification
Bold=Repetition
Turquoise=Alliteration

Blake Shelton uses poetic devises all throughout this song. He uses a lot of rhyming to make the song flow better. He also uses hyperbole to exaggerate. The chorus of the song is like repetition. It repeats throughout the song. The repetition holds the whole song together. He uses personification in the line "There's a beautiful sunset burning up the atmosphere," because the sunset can't literally burn up the atmosphere. This makes it sound more poetic. The whole song is a poem when it's written in this format. Almost all song lyrics are technically a poem.

My Poem:

As I'm walking through the halls,
of this dump we call a s
chool,
a locker door flies out,
and I fall like a fool.

The idiot that did this,
didn't even help,
so I tripped him as he walked,
and he screamed with a yelp!

The teacher heard him scream,
and she ran to see.
I was standing up,
as he said that it was me.

As I'm sitting here in detention,
I pray for the day,
when I leave this place,
and I stay at M
a'alaea Bay.

A beautiful beach by the water,
with iced tea in my hand,
as I bask in the sun,
and I lay upon the sand.
